Exploring the Impact of Stock Market Performance on the Real Estate Market

    Get PDF
This paper goes on to analyze the impact of stock market performance on the real estate market. This is done through the analysis of the recent performance of the stock market, real estate market, and key indicators of both markets. The goal of this paper is to inform the reader of potential trends in the real estate market based on key indicators that play a large role in the stock market’s performance in order to make more knowledgeable investments

Another look at the dayside spectra of WASP-43b and HD 209458b: are there scattering clouds?

The search for clouds on the dayside of hot Jupiters has been disadvantaged due to hot Jupiters having a limited number of high quality space-based observations. To date, retrieval studies have found no evidence for grey clouds on the dayside, however none of these studies explored the impact of scattering clouds. In this study we reanalyse the dayside emission spectrum of the hot Jupiter WASP-43b considering the different Spitzer data in the literature. We find that, in 2 of the 4 data sets explored, retrieving with a model that contains a scattering cloud is favoured over a cloud free model by a confidence of 3.13 - 3.36 σ\sigma. The other 2 data sets finds no evidence for scattering clouds. We find that the retrieved H2_2O abundance is consistent regardless of the Spitzer data used and is consistent with literature values. We perform the same analysis for the hot Jupiter HD 209458b and find no evidence for dayside clouds, consistent with previous studies.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures. Accepted for publication with MNRA

Mathematical Modelling of Turning Delays in Swarm Robotics

    Get PDF
We investigate the effect of turning delays on the behaviour of groups of differential wheeled robots and show that the group-level behaviour can be described by a transport equation with a suitably incorporated delay. The results of our mathematical analysis are supported by numerical simulations and experiments with e-puck robots. The experimental quantity we compare to our revised model is the mean time for robots to find the target area in an unknown environment. The transport equation with delay better predicts the mean time to find the target than the standard transport equation without delay.Comment: Submitted to the IMA Journal of Applied Mathematic

Oyster Gardening in Virginia: An Overview of Techniques

    Get PDF
This document is intended to respond to a growing demand for information on intensive, off- bottom aquaculture of the eastern oyster, Crassostrea vlrginica, in Virginia and neighboring coastal states and represents an attempt to partially fulfill the requests from oyster gardeners for information on approaches towards culturing oysters

Do National Parties Still Matter? A Study of Party System Congruence in the South

    Get PDF
The research presented here attempts to examine the evidence of incongruence implied by Gimpel\u27s intrastate party system autonomy theory. Through an examination of geographic voting patterns, trends toward greater congruence (less autonomy) should become apparent. The hypotheses implied are as follows: H1: Over time, statewide elections in the South will produce electoral cleavages, which are increasingly congruent with presidential electoral cleavages within each state. H2: Rim South electoral cleavage congruence will appear earlier in time than electoral cleavage congruence in the Deep South. H3: Statewide electoral cleavages in the Rim South will produce consistently higher congruence with presidential races than those of the Deep South

An introduction to culturing oysters in Virginia

This document is intended to respond to a growing demand for information on intensive, off-bottom aquaculture of the eastern oyster, Crassostrea virginica, in Virginia and neighboring coastal states. Over the past few years the number of individuals involved in intensive oyster aquaculture in Virginia has increased dramatically, and we now estimate that over 2000 separate off-bottom oyster culture operations are underway within the coastal waters of Virginia. Individuals involved in this activity include non-commercial gardeners, traditional watermen and members of the well-established hard clam aquaculture industry. In addition to growing oysters for personal consumption and marketing, an increasing number of individuals are participating in the activity to supply oysters for environmental restoration projects. This publication represents an attempt to fulfill the need for an introduction to culturing oysters. The approach described here reflects a strategy which we have been developing and refining over the past 10 years. It is neither complete nor exclusive. It is directed towards the culture of C. virginica in areas where the common oyster diseases Dermo and MSX (caused by the pathogens Perkinsus marinus and Haplosporidium nelsoni, respectively) are endemic and it includes information for both commercial aquaculturists and non-commercial gardeners. This publication is revised from a 1997 edition and contains new information about the status of selective breeding programs, regulations in Virginia related to oyster aquaculture and non-indigenous oyster species. We have also attempted in this revision to provide a listing of more reference materials for individuals interested in further reading. As in the past, our experiences are drawn largely from work in Virginia, but the general strategy should be applicable in many locations from southern New Jersey south along the U.S. Atlantic coast
